THE Candle Guide

6 places to grab a bag full of candles near you.

As you dip into the holiday season, you may start to feel like your mind is in 600 places at once. I’ve found that when I feel stressed and all over the place, it helps me to light a candle, or two, around the house. This allows me to take a few breaths and focus on the present.

Candles can help soothe the mind and body due to the smells they emit and the flickering light, offering a feeling of tranquility and calmness.

I’ve compiled a list of the 6 places to grab a bag full of candles near you. This will force you to work from home, cuddle up on your loveseat with a mug of hot coffee, and a grey wool blanket strewn across your lap.

The stores I’ve listed here are in order from the least expensive to most expensive (typically).

1. Trader Joe’s

Trader Joe’s is the new Yankee Candle. I’ve purchased a few fall and winter scents from Trader Joe’s over the last couple of months. For October, we had a good mix of apple crisp scents wafting through the apartment. Vanilla pumpkin was another hit. For the winter months, TJs has a great gingerbread candle in a tin. You can find them in the check-out aisle at your local Trader Joe’s.

Price: $4 or less

2. TJ Maxx & Marshall’s

90% of my candles come from trips to TJ’s and/or Marshall’s on my lunch break. They offer an abundance of candle brands at reduced prices.  Every time I walk into either of these stores, I’m greeted with rows and rows of assorted candles. The dw brand is one of my top 5 favs with scents like “peony petals” and “fireside embers”. Not only do they smell perfect, but the packaging makes them an easy buy as well.

Price: $4 – $16

3. Target

Personal favorite – smells like Anthropologie

Who doesn’t love Target? I love Target, your aunt loves Target, and your mom’s mom in western Kentucky loves Target. You’re probably already shopping at Target as you read this so this should be an easy buy. Since your shopping cart is already full with a king size blanket, blue fuzzy sweater, and a few decorative fake cacti,  add in a low-cost Coastal Linen candle to the mix.

Price: $5 – $28

4. Bath & Body Works

BBW… A classic. If you want your apartment to smell like a gingerbread house, click here. Are you more of a 3-wick candle gal? Fill your senses with Green Sage, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Tonka Bean for up to 45 hours. Bath and Body Works has really stepped it up their 2018 game with their festive candles and packaging that compliments the aroma.

Price: $24.50

5. Anthropologie

A candle from Anthropologie: The best gift a gift giver can give this holiday season. Do you ever venture over to an Anthropologie just to bask in the smell of the iconic orange and cranberry fragrance? Asking for a friend….

Price: $24 – $500

6. Diptyque

Diptyque began across the pond in Paris by three friends who were diligently searching the market for an elegant, one-of-a-kind fragrance. Nothing was standing out to Yves, Desmond, and Christiane, so they created a high-end candle to make your home smell like the Queen’s laundry room. Diptyque packaging is a 10/10. Price: $25 – $500

Let your stress melt away this holiday season with a handful of candles that will not disappoint you or your cat.
